Go Ask The Trees

400

You come to me
On bended knee
Begging, crying
“Michael, please!”
What question sleeps
Beneath your whining
Ask me, ask me please
“What of my career,
What’s your insight?”

I smile and nod
Go ask the trees
Ask the waters
Whisper to the flames
Ask the earth
What’s in your bones
Listen to the winds
And cast the stones

You come to me
Shaking, quivering
Bleeding heart in hand
“Michael, please!”
What question sleeps
Beneath your fears
Ask me, ask me please
What of love,
Will I find it true?“

I smile and nod
Go ask the trees
Ask the waters
Whisper to the flames
Ask the earth
What’s in your bones
Listen to the winds
And cast the stones

You come to me
Whispering
Wondering
“Michael, please!”
What question sleeps
Behind your eyes
Ask me, ask me please
“What of you
Where will you go?”

I smile and nod
Go ask the trees
Ask the waters
Whisper to the flames
Ask the earth
What’s in your bones
Listen to the winds
And cast the stones

I come to you
No answers in hand
Just runes to cast
“I am but a man”
The questions that sleep
All around
In you and me
I am asking
Here I plead
Beneath the trees

I smile and nod
As I ask the trees
As the water laughs
And the flames just dance
The earth is steady
And I feel your bones
I hear the air
And cast the stones

“By oak, ash, and thorn
If it be thy will,
Ancient ones,
Let the answers to these
My questions
Be known”
